Frappe spéciale de présentation (SP). Alors que le marquage de la tranche est un peu faible et décalé, la frappe de cette monnaie est remarquable ! Frappe sur un flan préparé, à l’aide de coins neufs et parfaits, aux traces de polissage visibles. Les champs sont des glacis en miroir absolument intacts. Les reliefs sont mats, recouverts d’un velours de frappe complet. Les reliefs sont hauts, avec une frappe complètement remontée. Les grènetis sont fins et détaillés. De la plus grande rareté et exceptionnel tant pour le numismate que pour l’histoire monétaire moderne. Fleur de coin.Notre exemplaire est une première frappe, sans doute de présentation, et peut-être destinée à l’Empereur lui-même, entre le sacre du 18 mai 1804 (28 floréal An XII) et le 6 juillet 1804 (17 messidor An XII), date du décret qui modifie la légende BONAPARTE PREMIER CONSUL en NAPOLEON EMPEREUR sur les monnaies. Tiolier avait été nommé par le Premier Consul le 21 ventôse An XI (12 mars 1803) comme graveur général de la Monnaie. Il réalisa pour la visite du Premier Consul à la Monnaie une médaille commémorant sa visite. Le portrait fut utilisé pour la frappe des premiers francs selon la loi du 17 germinal An XI : La pièce de 20 francs était à la taille de 155 pièces au kilogramme, avec un titre de 900 pour mille.
